Sportian, the sports division of Globant, and Lega Serie A have announced the results of its first year of technology partnership, showing significant progress in the league’s efforts to protect its content against global piracy with AI-powered tools and services.
With the support of Globant Sportian’s Piracy Guard services, Lega Serie A has worked
continuously with the aim of strengthening its defenses against unauthorized broadcasting.
During this season, the service has successfully detected and blocked more than 4,500 piracy
attacks per match week, reducing illegal distribution and protecting the revenues of official
broadcasters.
Piracy Guard employs a combination of real-time monitoring, AI-driven detection, and human
expertise to proactively identify and remove unauthorized streams across social media, illegal
websites, and other digital platforms. In recent years, Globant Sportian has enhanced these
specialized tools, originally developed by LALIGA in collaboration with other stakeholders, into a
global suite of products and services that are used by dozens of leagues, federations and
broadcasters around the world.
Thanks to strategic partnerships reached by Lega Serie A with META, YouTube, and TikTok,
and the trusted relationships that Globant Sportian maintains with global technology platforms,
the Piracy Guard team is able to remove infringing content directly and enforce broadcast rights
protection at scale.
“Lega Serie A has a complex and diversified strategy to combat piracy in the most effective
ways, leveraging all currently available tools. Through our partnership with Globant Sportian,
we’ve taken further steps to protect the investment of our licensees and ensure fans access
matches through legal channels,” said Luisella Fusco, Media Operations & Broadcast
Director at Lega Serie A. “Piracy remains one of the greatest threats to the sustainability of
football, and we consider it part of our responsibility to lead the fightback and protect our sport
for future generations.”
Today, Piracy Guard provides many of the world’s leading sports properties with real-time
content protection, dynamic blocking, and actionable intelligence to combat emerging piracy
threats.“As sports piracy becomes more sophisticated, the need for proactive strategies and global
collaboration has never been greater,” said Pablo lo Giudice, Product Manager for Piracy
Guard at Sportian. “Lega Serie A offers some of the most exciting entertainment in sports, and
attempts to steal its IP have been significant, but through this partnership we are staying one
step ahead. Italian football gave the world catenaccio - the system of world-class defense - and
we’re bringing that same energy to keep piracy out of the game.”
